The inspiration behind the Ukrainian Institute of Fashion History was the diverse range of Ukrainian national clothing that Veles encountered. He noticed a lack of specific places to trace the origins of these styles, despite the richness of Ukrainian history and culture. The website was developed to fill this gap and to showcase the boldness of national roots and imagination.
The website stands out for its unique approach to preserving national clothing history. It represents the initiative of a group of designers to keep this history alive and popular among the nation. The site is designed to be simple to navigate, allowing visitors to delve deep into each project and explore specific periods, descriptions, and photos of each clothing style.
The design process involved extensive research into Ukrainian design and culture. The logo, created based on a simple grid to provide a rectangular form, was designed to reflect the strength of Ukrainian culture. The design was then developed further, drawing inspiration from the images provided by the Glib Zagoriy Foundation.
The website was designed to work on any screen, ensuring it can be accessed on any device. The project, which started in August 2016 and was completed in February 2017, was carried out in Ukraine. The design team included Art Director Andrew Veles, Creative Director Oleh Teteriatnyk, Front End Developer Roman Sosnovsky, Back End Developer Pavlo Babenko, and Designer Viacheslav Veklych.
The Ukrainian Institute of Fashion History is now a space for temporary exhibitions, thematic and educational activities, and research projects in the field of fashion. It is a testament to the prodigious talent and wisdom of its creators, reflecting their commitment to advancing art, design, and technology while preserving and promoting Ukraine's rich clothing culture.
